  • Echoes from the Past: The Lives of Jewish Children During the Holocaust in Ukraine

    What did it mean to be a Jewish child during the Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Ukraine? How did Nazi genocidal policies target Jewish children, leading to the deaths of 1.5 million young people? Dr. Nataliiia Ivchyk will discuss how children were not passive victims but rather individuals with unique experiences according to their age, family situation, and environment. She also will address how Jewish children of the Holocaust are remembered in Ukraine today.

  • Lecture and conversation: “When Trees Testify”

    Award-winning plant biologist Beronda L. Montgomery and author of Lessons from Plants (Harvard University Press, 2021) explores in her latest book When Trees Testify: Science, Wisdom, History, and America’s Black Botanical Legacy the ways seven kinds of trees are intertwined with African American history and culture.

    Combining science and history with stories from her own life, Dr. Montgomery will have a conversation with historian Omar H. Ali for all to join.
