DESCRIPTION:“Homage to a Hero: Reflections from Reverend Steve Allen”\n\n\n\nthe International Civil Rights Center and Museum\, in collaboration with UNC-Greensboro’s departments of Media Studies\, History and University Libraries\, will honor Rev. Allen’s achievements with the short film\, Homage to a Hero: Reflections from Reverend Steve Allen\, at the ICRCM Auditorium. \n\n\n\nThe film portrays\, in Allen’s own words\, how\, over a successful career as an attorney\, judge\, and pastor\, he broke racial barriers and paved the way for generations to come. \n\n\n\nAfter the screening\, Rev. SUMMARY:The World According to Sound
DESCRIPTION:An immersive sonic experience about the spirit of academic inquiry \n\n\n\nSurrounded by an octophonic ring of powerful loudspeakers\, you are going to sit in the dark for 70 minutes\, wear an eye mask\, and be taken on a sonic trip with fellow members of your academic community. \n\n\n\nYou’ll hear the vibrations of the Golden Gate Bridge\, footsteps of ants\, recordings made a century ago\, and silence turned into music. You’ll be transported to 1930s Berlin\, up to the ionosphere\, under a sand dune\, and into the middle of a choir singing in a church built in the 6th century. \n\n\n\nYou’ll hear ideas\, essays\, books\, theories\, and contemporary research all translated into soundscapes that challenge you to rethink the world through your ears instead of your eyes…and ultimately to reconnect with what makes academic inquiry so meaningful. \n\n\n\nThe performance will be followed by a Q&A with co-producers Chris Hoff and Sam Harnett. \n\n\n\nReserve your spot at Eventbrite. \n\n\n\nSOUNDS\n\n\n\nThe show features a wide range of sounds and sonic experiences\, taking you from the melodious to the dissonant\, the amusing to the solemn\, the nostalgic to the unfamiliar. It’s totally fine (even encouraged) to let yourself react to what you’re hearing: laugh\, exclaim\, or emote in any way you see fit. It’s all part of the communal listening experience. If at any point you need to leave or take a break\, feel free to step out. We look forward to taking this sonic voyage with you. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReserve a Spot!
