The NIH-funded U-RISE program at UNCG is currently seeking applications from talented undergraduates for the 2024-25 cycle. The deadline for applications is January 31, 2025.
Prospective applicants must be sophomores, majoring in science, in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or greater), with an interest in pursuing a graduate degree in a biomedical field (not medical school). The U-RISE program is especially interested in recruiting scholars from diverse backgrounds.
U-RISE participants receive many financial benefits and professional development support over the course of the two-year program. Students receive a monthly stipend of approximately $1140, in-state tuition, and student health insurance. They participate in two paid summer research experiences: one at UNCG and one at another campus or research institution. U-RISE students also receive travel funds to attend scientific meetings and conferences each year of the program. Throughout the program, U-RISE students will conduct undergraduate research in a faculty mentor’s lab and will have opportunities to present and publish their work at UNCG and beyond. The faculty mentor receives funding for research supplies to support the student’s research activities.
