Wednesday Words: Special Edition

Join us for a special edition of Wednesday Words, our monthly undergraduate reading series and open mic. This reading will feature the faculty who teach our undergraduate workshops. The main reading will be followed by a short open mic and reception.

The Department of English at UNC Greensboro and the UNCG Creative Writing Program will host a rapid-fire fiction and poetry reading on Wednesday, September 16th at 6PM in the Organ Recital Hall of the UNCG School of Music. The reading will feature six of the English Department’s creative writing lecturers: Joe Dunne, Rachael Hershon, Michael Pittard, Andrew Saulters, Catherine Sawyers, and Katie Worden. The event, a part of College of Arts & Sciences Week at UNCG, is free & open to the public and will be followed by a reception.

JOE DUNNE is a Lecturer of English at UNC Greensboro and the Associate Director of UNCG’s Prison Education Program. In 2021, he earned his MFA in Creative Writing, Fiction. When not teaching the craft of fiction, he lays under trees, memorizes poems, and explores backroads. 

RACHAEL HERSHON is a poet and educator from just outside Boston, Massachusetts. Her work has appeared in Boulevard, Hayden’s Ferry Review, and Moon City Review, among others, and she has twice been named a finalist for the Dorianne Laux Prize for Poetry in 2025 and 2026. 

MICHAEL PITTARD is a Senior Lecturer of English at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is a doctoral candidate in Rhetoric and Composition and holds an MFA in poetry from UNCG. His poetry has appeared in or is forthcoming from such publications as Passages North, Autofocus, Cola Literary Review, & The Citron Review. 

ANDREW SAULTERS is an editor, poet, and bookbinder whose hobbies include cycling, still photography, and automotive maintenance. He is the author, with several collaborators, of No, It’s Just You: A Memoir in 70 One-Act Plays and One Montage.

CATHERINE SAWYERS received her MFA in Creative Writing from UNC Greensboro and currently lectures for the university. Her fiction has appeared in Carolina Muse and received an Honorable Mention for the Jacobs/Jones African-American Literary Prize in 2026.

KATIE M. WORDEN s a writer from New York. She teaches fiction writing and composition at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she earned her MFA and was awarded the Fred Chappell Creative Writing Fellowship. She lives in Greensboro with her two cats.
