Math vs. Gerrymandering with Speaker Thomas Weighill

April 10 @ 3:30 pm 5:00 pm

How can math and statistics help us defend democracy? One way is by helping us draw fair districts so that voters can choose their representatives and not the other way around.

When districts are drawn to serve an agenda rather than to best represent the voters, we call it gerrymandering. Over the last few years, the math of gerrymandering has become a rapidly growing field involving many different areas working together to solve complex problems.

Speaker, Thomas Weighill, will give a quick introduction to gerrymandering and then talk about ways that math can help us tackle this problem. This lecture is open to the public.
