Dr. Jeffrey Soles, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Classical Studies, has received new grant funding to continue research and conservation efforts as part of the Mochlos Excavation Project. The new proposal, “Mochlos 2020-2023: Publication and Site Conservation of a Minoan Town,” will be supported by nearly $170,000 in funds from the Institute for Aegean Prehistory (INSTAP).
According to the Mochlos project’s website: “The Greek-American excavation at Mochlos, Crete, was begun in 1989 under the auspices of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens, making it one of the longest Greek-American collaborations in the history of the School.” Learn more about Dr. Soles’s research here.
Proposal abstract: The project will publish the buildings and finds from the excavation of a Minoan town, dating from 3000 BC to 1430 BC, that was carried out by the PI over several years, and will also conserve those buildings and towns.
