The College of Arts and Sciences Belonging, Opportunity, and Wellbeing Committee is pleased to host its first CAS Book Club in spring 2026.

Over two afternoons (Friday, March 27 and Friday, April 24, both from 3-5pm in Foust 206), we will be discussing Matthew Desmond’s “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City.”

First African American Student Meets Artists Who Created Mural in Her Honor

When Joanne Smart Drane ‘60, the surviving alumna from the trailblazing duo, read a UNCG News story on the mural and the students who created it, she immediately reached out to the University with a request to meet them. This request led to a reception in her honor, which ended with a poignant conversation where artists Aminah Coppage ‘25, Jalani Maxwell ‘24, and Myles Wilder ‘25 were able to ask their famous predecessor the questions they pondered while creating the mural.

CAS launches research-focused radio show on 103.1 FM

The College of Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office is launching a radio show dedicated to showcasing faculty research. For Goldwater Scholar, Solutions to Antibiotic Resistance Could Stem from Trees

UNCG biochemistry student Janae Wofford has been awarded the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship for her innovative research into combating antibiotic-resistant “superbugs” by exploring natural compounds from trees. Guided by Dr. Nadja Cech, Wofford’s work focuses on identifying antimicrobial agents from the American Beech tree, aiming to develop new medicines to treat increasingly dangerous infections.
