In October 2025, the National Science Foundation (NSF) began to require that investigators complete an annual research security training within the 12 months preceding a grant proposal submission. In May 2025, the Department of Energy imposed the same requirement on investigators submitting research & development (R&D) applications.

All UNCG senior personnel listed on an NSF or DOE proposal must now complete this research security training prior to proposal submission, and completion will be checked by UNCG’s Office of Research Compliance and Integrity. Completion of the training module will cover the investigator for all NSF and DOE proposals for the subsequent year.

UNCG investigators who will be involved in any NSF or DOE proposal should take action to complete this training. Delaying the training could hold up the proposal review process and risk missing a submission deadline.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) will also require this training for senior/key personnel on proposals submitted on or after May 25, 2026.
