NPR correspondent Joe Palca to speak at UNCG

On Tuesday, October 20 at 3 p.m., UNC Greensboro will welcome Joe Palca, an award-winning NPR science correspondent, for a Zoom talk titled “Once Upon a Time: Telling Stories about Science.”

Palca has covered a range of science topics – from biomedical research to astronomy – during his journalistic career at NPR, CBS, Nature, and Science Magazine. His popular NPR series, Joe’s Big Idea, explores the minds and motivations of scientists and inventors. He is also founder of the NPR Scicommers, a community of scientists and engineers working to improve science communication.

Following the event will be several Q&A sessions for students, community members, faculty, and administrators. The schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, October 20
3 p.m.: Public lecture, “Once Upon a Time: Telling Stories about Science”
4 p.m.: Q&A session for UNCG students

Thursday, October 29 (Note: This was previously scheduled for October 22)
3 p.m.: Q&A session for the community, UNCG faculty and staff
4 p.m.: Q&A session for UNCG administrators

The speaker series is hosted by UNCG’s Research and Instruction in STEM Education (RISE) Network, with the goal of brining nationally recognized experts in STEM research and instruction to UNCG.
