Harriet Elliott Spring Keynote Event | Featuring Dr. Lynn Harter
Join the College of Arts & Sciences for the spring keynote event in this year’s annual Harriet Elliott Lecture Series, hosted by Communication Studies:
Our spring events get a little more personal, as we emphasize the “art” in the Art of Connecting. Featuring Dr. Lynn Harter – Professor of Communication at Ohio University, and Peacehaven – a longtime CST community partner, these events promise performances, arts & crafts, and highly-interactive workshops.
Speaker: Dr. Lynn Harter, Ohio University and the Barbara Geralds Institute for Storytelling and Social Impact
Performers/Partners: Peacehaven Core Members
Lynn Harter is a celebrated Professor in Communication Studies at Ohio University. Guided by aesthetic and narrative sensibilities, her work focuses on the communicative construction of possibility as individuals and groups organize for survival and social change amidst profound vulnerability. Lynn is co-producer of the Emmy award-winning documentary series The Courage of Creativity, Senior Editor of the academic journal Health Communication, and co-host and co-producer of the Defining Moments podcast. She has published over 80 journal articles and book chapters and has edited four award-winning scholarly books.
Core members of Peacehaven will also join us for a variety of performances and arts-based activities. Peacehaven was founded in 2007 by Tim & Susan Elliot and Buck & Cathy Cochran. These two families, raising children with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD), envisioned a place that would solve for isolation by cultivating community for people of all abilities. They knew of “the cliff” that so many families experience as their children age out of state and federal programs yet still seek opportunity, purpose, and belonging.
Please contact David Errera at dserrera@uncg.edu or 336.334.5297 at least one week prior to the event to request disability accommodations. All requests will be reviewed by event organizers and reasonable accommodations will be made. The requester will be notified of approved accommodations.
