The Jerome Evenson Research Support Endowed Fund and the Harriett Evenson Visiting Scholars Endowed Fund will foster the creation and sharing of knowledge related to Jewish history, religion, health, identify, and culture. The funds are administered by the College of Arts & Sciences working in collaboration with the Jewish Studies program, but full-time UNCG faculty members from any unit may apply to these funds.
Jerome Evenson Research Support Endowed Fund
The Jerome Evenson Research Support Endowed Fund supports the creation of new knowledge about Jewish history, health, migration, religion, and cultural production. The Fund will support one award of $12,000 per year. Faculty may submit proposals with budgets less than $12,000, which could allow multiple awards to be made. This year’s award will begin on July 1, 2026. Proposals can be up to 7 pages long and should include a project title; the name, department/program, college/school of the principal investigator(s); the project description with a timetable; a budget and budget justification; and a CV (shortened version, 2 pages max) for each PI. (CVs are not counted against the 7-page limit.) Budgets should include expenses that support the proposed research/creative work, such as travel, materials, or undergraduate and graduate research assistants. Faculty salary will not be supported by this fund. Any UNCG full-time faculty member may submit a proposal.
Proposals are due by midnight on May 1, 2026, as a single pdf file emailed to casresearch@uncg.edu.
Post-Award Requirements: Principal investigators who receive awards from the Jerome Evenson Fund will be expected to:
- Present preliminary findings at a Jewish Studies program meeting to foster connections across units
- Credit the “Jerome Evenson Research Support Endowed Fund” in publications, creative works, and presentations that are produced from this award.
- Inform the CAS Associate Dean for Research about publications, creative works, and grants that are produced from this award.
Harriett Evenson Visiting Scholars Endowed Fund

The Fund will support one visiting scholar per academic year with an award up to $20,000. Budgets should include costs associated with hosting a visiting scholar, such as travel, housing, meals, and an honorarium. Visiting scholars must be from institutions other than UNCG. Each visiting scholar will be expected to guest lecture in undergraduate and/or graduate courses, meet with faculty to develop ideas, and offer a public lecture. Proposals can be up to 4 pages and should include a brief explanation of who the visiting scholar is, how they fit the Fund’s purpose, how they will add to intellectual life while at UNCG (what will they do while on campus), who will host the visiting scholar (faculty’s name, department/program, and contact info), and a budget. The proposal should also include information about the duration, potential dates, and number of visits the scholar will make. Along with the proposal, proposers must submit a brief email/letter from the prospective visiting scholar stating that they will participate if the proposal is awarded. (This document is not counted against the 4-page limit). This year’s award will support a visiting scholar during the academic year 2026-2027. Any UNCG full-time faculty member may submit a proposal.
