For Goldwater Scholar, Solutions to Antibiotic Resistance Could Stem from Trees

UNCG biochemistry student Janae Wofford has been awarded the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship for her innovative research into combating antibiotic-resistant “superbugs” by exploring natural compounds from trees. Guided by Dr. Nadja Cech, Wofford’s work focuses on identifying antimicrobial agents from the American Beech tree, aiming to develop new medicines to treat increasingly dangerous infections.
