The NC Biotech Center is a state-funded non-profit agency that works to accelerate technology-based economic development in the life sciences through innovation, commercialization, education and business growth. NC Biotech offers several grant programs specifically for universities and non-profit research institutions. The agency recently published its grant application deadlines for the coming fiscal year.
FY 2023 Application Deadlines (all deadlines fall on a Wednesday, with proposal due at noon):
Flash Grant – up to $20,000. Supports creative ideas that exhibit early indications of commercial potential, particularly projects that can lead to disruptive technologies in the life sciences sector.
Cycle 1 deadline: Sept. 14, 2022
Cycle 2 deadline: Dec. 7, 2022
Cycle 3 deadline: Mar. 22, 2023

Innovation Impact Grant (IIG) – up to $150,000. Supports the purchase of research equipment for core facilities at academic or nonprofit institutions, fostering innovation within North Carolina’s life sciences ecosystem.

Translational Research Grant (TRG) – up to $100,000. Funds projects that explore commercial applications or initiate the early commercial development of university-held life sciences inventions.

Event sponsorships (BES) and Meeting grants (BMG) – up to $3,000 (events) or up to $10,000 (meetings). BES supports life-science events for an NC audience. BMG supports national/international meetings held in NC. Application deadline depends on event/meeting date:
