Time of Death in the Roman Empire: Timekeeping, Astrology, and Afterlife Among Christians and Pagans

April 8 @ 6:00 pm 7:15 pm

Join Dr. Simeon Ehrlich (University of Wisconsin-Madison, Institute for Research in the Humanities) in this free public lecture which explores the more than 1000 ancient Roman tombstones which record the times of death of children. Arguing that these “hour texts” were the basis of horoscopes for the dead to gain protection from deities in the afterlife, Dr. Ehrlich explores how this practice spread around the Roman Empire and transformed under Christian influence.

This event will be hosted on Mircosoft Teams, so make sure to register at: go.uncg.edu/amsaehrlich.
