Cuny wins 2025 Research Mentor award – Professional Track

Senior Lecturer Kim Cuny has received the 2025 UNCG Thomas Undergraduate Research Mentor Award in the professional track category. The communication scholar, who examines storytelling and disability activism, has mentored many undergraduates through coursework, independent studies, and internships. She develops strong relationships with each of her students to help them succeed, and her students say her pedagogical approach empowers them to take risks.

Alumna’s Wild Designs Make the North Carolina Zoo Stand Out

Crista McGee, a UNCG Interior Architecture alumna, designs animal habitats at the North Carolina Zoo, focusing on creating spaces that mimic the animals’ natural environments while engaging both the animals and visitors. She oversees exhibit design and maintenance, incorporating behavioral insights and naturalistic elements to enhance animal welfare and public education.

Wiley wins 2025 UNCG Research Mentor award – Pre-tenure Category

Assistant Professor Robert Wiley has received the 2025 UNCG Thomas Undergraduate Research Mentor Award in the pre-tenure category. The psychologist, who examines the cognition of reading and writing, has mentored 35 undergraduate students in his Cognitive and Neural Science of Learning (CNSL) lab since he arrived at UNCG in 2019, through the PSY433 Research Experience course.

New Student-Created Mural Brightens the CAS Dean’s Office

A new mural created by UNCG students Aminah Coppage, Jalani Maxwell, and Myles Wilder brightens the College of Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office, drawing inspiration from the university’s history, including a tribute to the first Black students at the Woman’s College. The artwork also features symbolic elements like apples for good luck and hidden “Easter Eggs” for viewers to discover.

UNCG Lands Unreal Academic Partnership with Epic Games 

In January, UNC Greensboro was chosen as one of just 36 U.S. universities – and one of just three in North Carolina – for an Unreal Academic Partnership by Cary-based Epic Games, makers of Unreal Engine 3D computer graphics tool and Fortnite, one of the world’s most popular video games. Dr. John Borchert, director of UNCG’s Network for the Cultural Study of Videogaming, created UNCG’s Unreal Fellows program.

When not studying or skateboarding, Taylee Gaillard keeps busy writing scripts, setting up the best lighting for a shot, and editing short films at UNC Greensboro.

He’s already an award winner, in no small part thanks to his friendship with Steven Kimmerle ‘24, a newly graduated alum of UNCG. Kimmerle took him under his wing as a rookie gaffer.
