The College of Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office will support up to 10 undergraduate research or creative work assistantships in the spring and summer terms in 2026.  These opportunities should provide training and hands-on research or creative work experience for undergraduate students. Students should work on a faculty-led research or creative project. Students should not be hired to do the same research/creative work that they are already doing in a research class.

The positions will pay $15 per hour. Each student will work up to 10 hours per week. The student can be hired for the spring semester only (17 weeks) or for the spring and summer terms (29 weeks).

All CAS tenured, tenure-track and professional track full-time faculty are eligible to submit a research or creative work assistantship proposal. The proposal deadline is September 30, and the proposal should not exceed one page. The proposal should include:

  • Name/contact info for faculty
  • 1 paragraph about the faculty’s project
  • 1 paragraph explaining how the faculty will interact with the student, what tasks the student will be asked to do, and any additional professional development opportunities planned for the student (poster presentation and a conference, for example)
  • Specify whether student will be hired for spring semester only (January 12-May 8, 2026) OR for spring and summer terms (January 12-July 31, 2026).

The Dean and Associate Deans will review submitted proposals and select up to 10 proposals to fund.

Timeline:

  • September 30, 2025 – Submit proposals to Anna Marie Rogers, amrogers53@uncg.edu
  • October 31, 2025 – Awardees notified
  • November 1-December 20, 2025 – Faculty recruit and hire students

We will ask faculty and students to create posters related to their research/creative work to present at the Beginning of Year event in August 2026.

* Only one proposal per faculty, please.

* Graduating seniors will only be able to work spring term. Due to UNCG policies, they are not able to work as an undergraduate student in the summer after they graduate.

If you have any questions, please contact Dean Kelly Joyce, kajoyce@uncg.edu
