SUMMARY:CAS Diversity Award Presentation: Jeffrey Kaplan and the UNCG Prison Education Program
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Jeffrey Kaplan with a former student in California\n\n\n\nUNCG’s College of Arts & Sciences invites you to its annual presentation of the Dean’s Award for the Promotion of Diversity and Inclusiveness. \n\n\n\nThe 2023 award recipient is Dr. Jeffrey Kaplan\, a UNCG professor of philosophy\, for his development of the UNCG Prison Education Program. \n\n\n\nThis program\, which has set up a college education program at Butner Federal Prison in North Carolina\, pierces the barrier between prisons and our community and advances the university’s mission of “redefining the 21st century public research university as an inclusive\, collaborative\, and responsive institution.” \n\n\n\nBefore coming to UNCG\, Kaplan spent four years teaching college courses in San Quentin State Prison in California. He will talk about some of the surprising things he learned teaching in the California State Prison system and which of those lessons do and do not apply to the UNCG Prison Education Program that he has established here in North Carolina. \n\n\n\nUNCG faculty\, staff\, students\, and friends are invited to join us as Dr. Jeffrey Kaplan shares more about the UNCG Prison Education Program. \n\n\n\nA reception with light refreshments will follow. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nabout cas News & Events\n\n\n\n\n\n\nADDITIONAL LINKSCAS HeadlinesSubmit a Story IdeaCAS Events CalendarPublic Events on CampusSubmit an Event For CAS CalendarCAS Communications \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMEDIA CONTACTAmanda KennisonDirector of Communications336.334.5397adkennis@uncg.edu
