CAS Faculty, Staff Honored at End-of-Year Celebration

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, faculty and staff gathered in UNCG’s Cone Ballroom for the annual College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) End of Year Celebration. Interim Dean Amy Adamson delivered remarks and bestowed awards for excellence in teaching, advising, service, and more.

Opportunity Meets Initiative for UNCG’s Goldwater Scholar

UNC Greensboro is proud to announce that third-year chemistry student, Marcos Tapia, has been awarded the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship.

Tapia, a first-generation college student from Winston-Salem, was among only 438 students chosen nationwide for the Goldwater honor, which awards $7,500 a year, to cover up to two years of tuition expenses.

Dr. Clifford Smyth Receives NSF Grant for Combinatorics Conference

Dr. Clifford Smyth, Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, has received a National Science Foundation conference grant to support the “Triangle Lectures in Combinatorics.” The three-year, $50,000 grant will fund twice-yearly gatherings of mathematics faculty and students from across the state. Dr. Art Murphy Receives Award From NC DHHS to Continue “Recipe For Success”

Dr. Art Murphy, Professor in the Department of Anthropology, was awarded a new contract with the NC Department of Health and Human Services to continue funding the long-running “Recipe for Success” program. The one-year contract, for $1.04 million, will support the program’s on-going efforts to improve nutrition education in low-income communities in the region.

Professor Sat Gupta, a statistician whose research interests include survey sampling and biostatistics, has received the 2024 UNCG Thomas Undergraduate Research Mentor Award in the tenured category.
