Dr. Matías Murano, who is affiliated with the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, has written a fascinating book chronicling his travels as a doctor studying Indigenous healing practices in Latin America.

Journeying from Cuba, through Mexico and Central America, to several countries in South America, Matías served in urban and rural clinics, shared meals and conversation in local homes, and ventured to remote villages, all the while studying ancient remedies and gaining fresh insights into historical and current tensions between the natural and the “civilized” ways of conceiving and being in the world.
