SUMMARY:Classics Gaming Collaborative: SEMI-ANNUAL GAMING LAB & LECTURE
DESCRIPTION:The Classics Gaming Collaborative\, sponsored by the UNCG Network for the Cultural Study of Videogaming\, is pleased to host a Gaming Lab and Lecture on Thursday\, March 14\, 2024 at 5pm. \n\n\n\n\n\nGuest Lecturer: Dr. Roger Travis\, Associate Professor of Classics\, Departments of Literatures\, Cultures\, & Languages and Digital Media and Design\, University of Connecticut \n\n\n\n“Building a Really Epic Deck in Marvel’s Midnight Suns” \n\n\n\nDr. Travis discusses the roots of deckbuilding — of both the analog and the digital varieties — in oral recompositional epics like the Homeric Iliad and Odyssey. When you optimize your deck of hero moves in 2K’s Marvel’s Midnight Suns\, Travis will try to persuade you\, you’re doing something a lot more epic than you know! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n**NOTE** This will be a hybrid event with a 50-person cap on the in-person gaming lab component. Register early to secure your spot! \n\n\n\n\nJoin Virtually on Twitch\n\n\n\nRSVP for In-Person

SUMMARY:Great Conversation: Make-believe Everything You Read
DESCRIPTION:When interpreting another person\, it is a good policy to try to interpret their words as charitably as possible. Dr. Adam Rosenfeld will lead an open discussion about the idea that engaging in a playful sort of make-believe is the best way to do this. What does that mean? Is it true? Come join the conversation! \n\n\n\nHosted by the Department of Philosophy \n\n\n\nFree and open to the public.
